Erectile Dysfunction Common With Diabetes

By Miriam E. Tucker , ,

Men with diabetes: If you’re having trouble getting (or maintaining) an erection, you’re not alone. In fact, more than half of men with diabetes worldwide have erectile dysfunction. Researchers analyzed results from 145 studies involving 88,577 men with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Overall, about 53 percent of them had erectile dysfunction. That’s more than three times the rate seen in men without diabetes. Erectile dysfunction was present in 66 percent of men with type 2 diabetes, about 38 percent of men with type 1 diabetes, and 67 percent of men above age 60. If that sounds like you or your partner, don’t hesitate to mention the problem to a doctor—treatments are available.
